One of the recurrent themes of his movies is revenge which, according to the Korean director, is utterly futile and it wreaks havoc on the lives of everyone involved.The numerous awards are the ultimate proof of his unique talent, from Grand Prix at The Cannes Film Festival from 2004 to Golden Bear for Best Short Film at Berlin Film Festival in 2011.
